“I am a swayamsevak, got inspiration from here to work for society, our work will be for nation's welfare,” he said after after visiting the memorial.

The 44-year-old was accorded a grand welcome, yesterday, by people of Nagpur on his first visit to his hometown after becoming the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

On his arrival at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport today, Mayor Pravin Datke officially welcomed him in the presence of thousands of BJP workers.

Afterwards, the Chief Minister rode in an open-top vehicle, decked up like a chariot, along with his wife Amruta and local BJP leaders followed by a procession of party workers on motorcycles.

The whole city wore a festive look, with hoardings, banners, arches and rangoli creations welcoming the Chief Minister as he proceeded to his residence in Dharampeth area.

He briefly stopped on the way to offer flowers at the statue of RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar.

Fadnavis was elected to the Legislative Assembly from Nagpur south-west constituency in last month's elections, and sworn in as the Chief Minister last Friday.
