Mumbai: An FIR has been registered against
the Dubai-based owners, captain and crew members of a cargo
vessel that ran aground near the Juhu beach in north-west
Mumbai, police said here on Monday.
"An FIR under IPC section 336 (act endangering life or
personal safety of others) was registered against the owner/s,
captain and crew members of the vessel M V Pavit," said CG
Naik, Senior Inspector at Yellow Gate police station.
The unmanned Panama-flagged vessel, which has a capacity
to hold 1,000 tonnes of cargo, ran aground near Seven
Bungalows yesterday and was suspected to have drifted from the
Persian Gulf, according to police.
This was a second incident in the recent past as another
merchant vessel MV Wisdom had got stuck on Juhu beach in
June, and could be salvaged after about three weeks.
According to the the Coast Guard, Pavit has ten tonnes of
fuel and `gas-oil` each. The ship`s owners had believed that
the ship had sunk some days ago.
