Mumbai: Former encounter specialist,
Ravindra Angre, was on Tuesday arrested on charges of threatening
kin of a Thane builder who had filed an extortion case against
him two years ago.

Angre was produced before a Magistrate`s court in nearby
Thane which remanded him to police custody till June 18.

According to police, Angre had yesterday fired at the
brother of Thane builder Mahesh Wagh. However, the victim
escaped unhurt.

Police suspect that Angre had opened fire yesterday to
avenge the builder`s act of filing extortion complaint against
him earlier.

Wagh had complained to police in 2008 that Angre was

then after evading arrest for a long time. Angre spent more
than 14 months in Thane Central prison and was released on
bail in May 2009 by Supreme Court.

One of Mumbai`s best-known "encounter specialists",
Angre, in his 25-year career, has shot dead over 50 gangsters
including notorious Suresh Manchrekar.
