Malegaon: Socialist leader and former Maharashtra minister Nihal Ahmed Maulavi Mohammed Usman was laid to rest here last night.
90-year-old Ahmed passed away yesterday following age-related ailments at a private hospital in Nashik.
He was laid to rest at the Bada Kabrasthan burial ground here last night.
Leaders cutting across party lines were present at the burial.
Ahmed was former Maharashtra Minister of Technical and Higher Education, state president of Janata Dal (Secular) and former legislator in the state Assembly for nearly three decades.
Popularly known as 'Nihalbhai', he was the first mayor of Malegaon Municipal Corporation.
