Mumbai: A special MCOCA court on Thursday framed
charges against gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli and 13
others in connection with the murder of Shiv Sena corporator
Kamlakar Jamsandiker.
Gawli and the other accused have been charged under the
stringent provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised
Crime Act (MCOCA) and under various sections of the Indian
Penal Code, including murder.
The trial in the case would begin from October 12 in the
court of special MCOCA Judge R G Avachat.
According to the prosecution, Gawli took `supari`
(contract killing sum) of Rs 30 lakh from a local property
developer to eliminate Jamsandiker.
Jamsandiker was killed in March 2008 at his Asalpha
residence in suburban Ghatkopar. Two persons, namely Sahebrao
Bintade and Bala Surve, allegedly paid Gawli to kill
Jamsandikar over a property dispute.
Gawli was arrested on May 21, 2008 and has been in
custody since then. He has also been booked in an extortion
case, where he has been accused of demanding money from a
local builder.
The MCOCA court had in July this year granted bail to
Gawli in the extortion case.
