Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil on Saturday said the government would take all care of the mill workers rendered jobless due to closure of mills in the state.

workers rendered jobless due to closure of mills in the state.

"In 1985 there were 130 mills in the state employing over
6 lakh people. Today, on one hand while production of cotton
has gone up, the number of mills has come down to 40," Patil
said.
He was addressing a function organised by the Rashtriya
Girni Kamgar Sangh at the Railway Hall here.

Patil expressed concern over the closer of mills and said
outdated machineries and increase in the price of the mill
land have added to the mill workers woes.

Patil handed over the cheques of Rs 10 crore got under
the Central Government`s mill workers rehabilitation scheme,
to the 2800 Laxmi-Vishnu mill workers.
The mill started a century ago providing jobs to over
5500 workers, was closed on 1995.
