Govt, private companies should work together to reduce power tariff: Maharashtra CM

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday said the state government and power utilities should come together to providing electricity at reasonable rates to the consumers.

Nashik: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday said the state government and power utilities should come together to providing electricity at reasonable rates to the consumers.

"The electricity tariff is a big challenge before the state. The state government and the power companies need to work together to provide electricity to the common man at reasonable rates," Fadnavis said after inaugurating the golden jubilee convention of Maharashtra Veej Kamgar Mahasangh at a college here.

He further said that attempts were being made to reduce power generation rates.

"On one side, electricity is being provided at concessional tariff to the agricultural sector, but the industrial sector is getting it at a higher rate. We hope that the central government's?new coal?policy will prove beneficial for power generation at reasonable rates," he said.

He also assured the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) employees of looking into their pension-related issues.

BJP MP from Dindori Harishchandra Chavan, local MLAs, MSEDCL's managing director Ajay Mehta and Maharashtra Veej Kamgar Mahasangh president Anna Desai were present on the occasion.
