Alibaug: Peasants and Workers Party (PWP) suffered a setback in the elections held for five Gram Panchayats in the taluka with Congress emerging as a dominant winner.
Voting for 165 gram panchayats in Raigad district was held yesterday.
While PWP could retain only Aakshi Gram Panchayat, Congress emerged victorious in four gram panchayats.
In Hashiware Gram Panchayat, Congress won five seats and PWP 4 while in Shirvali Gram Panchayat it pocketed 5 seats whereas PWP could secure mere 2.
In Mule and Boris Gram Panchayats, Congress won all the 7 seats where PWP drew a blank.
In Uran taluka, both Congress and PWP won 9 seats each. Congress swept Pen taluka gram panchayat winning all 15 seats.
In Panvel taluka PWP won nine gram panchayats and Congress five.
