Gram Panchayats to be computerised: Maharashtra minister

Maharashtra Government will make efforts to computerise gram panchayats and make available online various schemes that are implemented through Zilla Parishads, Rural Development Minister Pankaja Munde said here on Monday.

Mumbai: Maharashtra Government will make efforts to computerise gram panchayats and make available online various schemes that are implemented through Zilla Parishads, Rural Development Minister Pankaja Munde said here on Monday.

Addressing a conference of chief executive officers of Zilla Parishads in the state, the minister said ZPs are known as "mini mantralayas" and almost all government schemes are implemented through them in rural areas.

"In order to lessen the work load of ZPs, the government will focus on computerisation of gram panchayats and making the schemes available online," Munde said.

She said the issue of appointment and transfers of employees in gram panchayats, panchayat samitis and zilla parishads has become a "serious" one and also pointed at the shortage of staff.

"The issues concerning these local bodies are of transparency and efficiency and that is why the emphasis will be on computerisation of these bodies," she said.

The staff implementing various development schemes should be result-oriented instead of being target-oriented, the minister said.
