HC Judge advises students to build up character

Even a judge, if his/her character is imperfect, can not give an advice, Justice P B Majmudar of the Bombay High Court on Saturday said.

Mumbai: Even a judge, if his/her character is
imperfect, can not give an advice, Justice P B Majmudar of the
Bombay High Court on Saturday said.

Paying tribute to Dr B R Ambedkar for his contribution to
the Constitution, and his fight for securing rights for
Dalits, Justice Majmudar urged law students here to take a
leaf out of Ambedkar`s life, and build the character.
He was addressing students at the inauguration of
Foundation Day of Dr B R Ambedkar Legal Research Centre here.

Majmudar, known for some speaking orders against
Maharashtra Government and the Mumbai civic corporation,
advised the students to put character above the wealth. "More
than the money, your conduct is important", he said.

Quoting the adage "...if character is lost, everything is
lost," he said, today the adage had changed to "if character
is lost nothing is lost but if wealth is lost everything is
lost".

"We should learn a lesson from Dr Ambedkar`s life.
Against all odds, he worked hard in the "unfortunate days of
untouchability".
"The way he (Dr Ambedkar) shaped his career and built the
Constitution of the country... you, as a student, should try
to follow in his footsteps. Money is not everything. Your
attitude and character will make your life," the judge said.
