Mumbai: Kavita Karkare, the widow of former Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad chief Hemant Karkare, passed away after suffering brain haemorrhage on Monday.

She was reportedly undergoing treatment in Hinduja hospital in Mahim and was declared brain dead by the doctors today morning.

Kavita is survived by three children - one son and two daughters. They have given their consent to donate her organs.

Her last rites would be performed at Shivaji Park crematorium tomorrow, police sources said.

"Kavita Karkare had a brain haemorrhage because of which she was taken to Hinduja Hospital at Mahim on Saturday. Her condition is critical and she is in coma," a police officer had reportedly said.

He was killed near Mumbai's Cama Hospital, along with Additional Police Commissioner Ashok Kamte and senior police inspector Vijay Salaskar.
