Mumbai: One of the last wishes of Yakub Memon, who was hanged in Nagpur Central Jail on Thursday, was to talk to his daughter.
The jail authorities granted him the wish and he was allowed to call his 21-year-old daughter, Zubeida.
According to a report in The Times of India, the jail staff handed the phone to Yakub after dialling Zubeida's number.
The Daily quoted sources as saying that Yakub broke down on hearing Zubeida's voice and his daughter too started crying.
As per the report, Yakub told his daughter that he wanted to see her getting married and settle down happily, but would not be able to so now.
He also told Zubeida to take care of her mother.
Yakub, the lone death row convict in the March 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, was hanged after a prolonged legal battle that continued till barely a couple of hours before his execution, as per IANS.
The body was released with stringent pre-conditions and brought to Mumbai.
Accompanied by family members and a large posse of armed police, the Yakub's body was taken to the Bada Kabristan where he was buried with full religious rites next to the graves of his parents.
