New Delhi: Incessant rains and flash floods have left at least 20 people dead in Chandrapur district in Maharashtra. In the rescue efforts, thousands of people in the low-lying areas of region have been evacuated to safer places.
District Collector Dr Deepak Mhaisekar has stated that financial aid would be distributed speedily. As many as 2,215 persons from 585 families in the city were shifted to safer places while in Ballarpur tehsil, 1,080 persons from 537 families were shifted.
Warning has been issued to those living in low-lying areas as water from Gosikhurd dam in Bhandara district continues to be released into river Wainganga which is in spate.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has come in for praise from the administration for flood relief work.
