Land scam: BJP MLAs deny Rane`s charge

Leader of Oppn Eknath Khadse denied Industries Minister Narayan Rane`s allegations that they had acquired government land at "throwaway" prices.

Mumbai: BJP functionaries, including
Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly
Eknath Khadse on Tuesday denied Industries Minister Narayan Rane`s
allegations that they had acquired government land at
"throwaway" prices.

Rane, who was indicted in yet-to-be-tabled CAG report
over the alleged misuse of two plots of land allotted to a
trust run by his family members in Sindhudurg district, had
yesterday identified Khadse, BJP legislator Devendra Phadnavis
and former opposition leader in the Council Phandurang
Phundkar as being the beneficiaries of the state government`s
largesse in the form of land allotted to the trusts run by
them.

Reacting to the charge of the Congress heavyweight,
Phadanvis, Khadse and Chandrashekhar Bawankule--who are
members of the Lower House-- dismissed the allegations.

"Myself, my family or any institution which I have
been associated with have never benefitted in form of land at
concessional rate," Phadanvis said.
Khadse and Bawankule said they have recommended land
for schools and girls hostels, respectively and the allotted
land has been utilised for the purpose.
