Maha Lokayukta received 1,680 complaints but no probe: RTI
Mumbai: Despite receiving 1,680 complaints of corruption since 2007, Maharashtra Lokayukta hasn`t launched probe even in a single case, an RTI activist said here.
According to the reply to a query under Right to Information by former Central Information Commissioner and activist Shailesh Gandhi, the complaints/allegations were received under section 9(1)(b) of Lokayukta Act, which deals with allegations by persons `other than public servants`.
But no investigation, as prescribed by the Act, has been launched in any of these cases.
Further, the reply says, only six reports (three each in 2010 and 2011) were submitted to the competent authority recommending action, and the authority, in turn, took action in two cases. However Lokayukta said in two reports sent to the Governor that it was not satisfied by the action.
Gandhi said Maharashtra has a Lokayukta since 1972, who does almost no work.
