Maha to request NDDB to procure 15k MT milk powder

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government will request the National Dairy Development Board to procure 15,000 MT of milk powder from the state's stock of 24,000 MT, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said Tuesday.

Speaking at a meeting with the representatives of the state milk producers' action committee, Chavan said if the NDDB purchases 15,000 metric tonnes of milk powder, the state government is willing to bear the expenses of Rs 15 per kilo.

About 113 lakh litres milk is collected every day in organised dairy sector, out of which, 36 lakh litres is through co-operative and rest through government and private parties.

The actual sale of milk per day is 75 lakh litres. About 10 lakh litres dairy products are produced and 28 lakh litres of milk is made into milk powder and butter.
