Mumbai: After Rahul Mahajan was in the news
for domestic violence, his uncle Prakash, a Shiv Sena leader,
is now stoking a controversy by claiming his share in a plot
of land given to a trust run by his niece.
Prakash, brother of slain BJP leader Pramod Mahajan,
today said he would undertake an indefinite fast to claim his
share in a 3.5 acre plot given to the trust seven years ago.
"The ancestral land at Osmanabad, was handed over by
Pramodji to the Tapaswi Public Charitable Trust without
consulting anyone in the family," he claimed.
Poonam Mahajan Rao, Pramod's daughter, is the chairman of
the trust.
"I have sought my share and filed an appeal with the
Osmanabad SDO, claiming my share of the land. I have a right
on it as it is ancestral property," he said over phone.
He also alleged that the trust secretary Milind Patil has
indulged in irregularities. Among the educational institutes
that have come up on the land is a college, named after late
Venkatesh Mahajan, his father.
Meanwhile, Mantralaya sources said it would take a couple
of months for the SDO to give a ruling after reviewing the
case thoroughly.
"Prakash Mahajan's plea has some merit and he may get a
favourable verdict from the civil court," they said on
condition of anonymity.
The Mahajan family is not new to twists and turns since
the time of Pramod Mahajan's murder at the hands of his
estranged brother Praveen in 2006.
His low-profile son Rahul was all over media and was
arrested shortly after his father's death in connection with a
drugs case, in which the late BJP leader's trusted friend died
of an overdose.
In July the same year he got married to Shweta Singh but
was soon accused of beating her and the couple got divorced.
Last year he starred in a reality tv programme in which
he chose a girl Dimpy Ganguly from several others to get
married.
