Maharashtra CEO presents list of newly elected MLAs to Governor

Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Electoral Officer Nitin Gadre today handed over the list of newly elected members of 288-member state Assmebly to Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao.

The elections in the state were held on October 15 and results were declared on October 19.

The elections have thrown up a hung House, though BJP has emerged as the single largest party with 123 seats, including one seat won by its ally Rashtriya Samaj Paksha (RSP), but is facing a shortfall of 22 MLAs to reach the magic figure of 145 seats it needed to form government.

Though Sharad Pawar-led NCP, with its 41 MLAs, has offered an "unconditional outside" support to BJP in formation of government, speculations are rife that BJP's estranged partner Shiv Sena, which won 63 seats, may join the new government.
