Maharashtra civic polls: Sena-BJP largest alliance in Aurangabad, NCP single biggest party in Navi Mumbai

The Shiv Sena-BJP alliance retained the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation while Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) ​emerged as the single largest party in Navi Mumbai municipal corporation.

Mumbai: The Shiv Sena-BJP alliance retained the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation while Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) ​emerged as the single largest party in Navi Mumbai municipal corporation.

The counting for the civic polls, held on Wednesday, began on Thursday morning.

In Aurangabad, of the total 113 seats, the Shiv Sena has bagged 29, while the BJP finished with 22. The Sena-BJP alliance therefore ending with a tally of 51 seats.

The 5 BSP winners and 19 others elected will hold the key to who comes to power in the municipal body.

The Congress ended up with 10 seats, while three seats went in favour of the NCP. 

However, the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) made a surprising debut by winning 25 seats.

Two former women mayors Kala Ojha and Anita Ghodele in Aurangabad tasted defeat while son of Sena MP Chandrakant Khaire won the poll. Khaire's nephew Sachin Khaire, however, lost. Meanwhile, Khaire said that it would have been better had the Sena contested the polls on its own. Senior BJP minister Vinod Tawde described Khaire's remarks as his personal opinion.

In Navi Mumbai, of the total 111 seats, the NCP has won 53 seats. The Shiv Sena has scalped 37 seats and BJP emerged victorious on 6 — the Sena-BJP alliance bagging 43 seats altogether.

The Congress has won 10 seats and 5 seats went to the Independent candidates in the fray.

Senior NCP leader Ganesh Naik hinted at an alliance with the Congress party to come to power in the municipal body.

In Ambernath, of the total 57 seats, the Shiv Sena bagged 26 seats while its alliance partner BJP ended with 10 wins. The Shiv Sena-BJP alliance ending with a clear majority of 36. 

The Congress had to be content with 8 seats here, while the NCP ended with 5 seats.

The Raj Thackeray lead-Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has opened its kitty here with 2 seats, while 6 seats went to the Independent candidates.

In Badlapur, of the total 47 seats, the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance emerged clear winners.

The Shiv Sena emerged victorious on 24 with the BJP scalping 20 — the alliance ended with a tally of 44.

The NCP ended with 2 seats in the kitty, while one seat went to an Independent candidate. The Congress failed to open its account here.
