Nashik: Maharashtra water resource minister Girish Mahajan has directed officials to immediately provide assistance to farmers who suffered crop loss due to fresh spate of untimely rains and hailstorm in the district during the last 48 hours.
Mahajan, who is also the guardian minister of Nashik, in a meeting with officials last night, ordered collector Deependra Singh Kushwah, divisional revenue commissioner Eknath Davle and other senior officials to prepare panchnama (assessment of crop damage) at the earliest.
The minister said that 5,815 farmers in 130 villages of the district have suffered losses across 10,937 hectares. The crops include onion under 4,078 hectare, wheat under 2,334 hectare, and crop of other seasonal fruits like grape and pomegranate.
District collector Kushwah said crop of grapes was severely affected under 8,713 hectare due to rains late last month and recently, two days ago.
He said that pachnama due to rainfall on February 28 and on March 1 has been prepared.
Beside crop loss, some livestock were also killed due and houses of farmers were damaged due to the untimely downpour.
