Maharashtra police constable nabbed for taking bribe

A police constable attached to city traffic unit was arrested here while allegedly accepting bribe from a travel company employee, Anti-Corruption Bureau officials said on Thursday.

Thane: A police constable attached to city traffic unit was arrested here while allegedly accepting bribe from a travel company employee, Anti-Corruption Bureau officials said on Thursday.

Constable Sanjay Ratansingh Parmar (49), posted at Panvel city traffic branch demanded a bribe of Rs 7,500 from a driver who works with a travel company for allowing the bus to enter into the city, Deputy Superintendent of Police S H Panhale, ACB Thane unit said in an official release today.

The driver then filed complaint with the Navi Mumbai ACB office and a trap was laid, it said.

The travel company operates two buses on the Mumbai-Goa route.

The policeman was caught red-handed taking the bribe last night near the S T Bus depot here, it added.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act.
