Mumbai: Leading journalists organisations in
Maharashtra today decided that their members would wear black
ribbons on August 9 to protest several incidents of attacks on
journalists in the state.

The decision was taken at a meeting of 12 prominent
journalists organisations at Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh.
"If the state government fails to bring in a legislation
to protect journalists from attacks, the organisations would
intensify their agitation," convener of the `Patrakar Halla
Virodhi Kriti Samiti`, S M Deshmukh told PTI after the
meeting.

In the past two years, there have been over 150 attacks
on journalists and newspaper offices in the state, he said.
