Major air disaster averted in Mumbai

Mumbai: In what could have been like another Mangalore disaster in terms of the number of casualties, a major air accident was averted by Mumbai airport authorities late Wednesday night.
As per reports, Jet Airways flight 9W 616 was about to land on the main runway exactly at 4 minutes past 9 in the evening. At the same time however, an Indigo aircraft flight 6E 415 was on the same runway instead of being on taxiway `N` to which it was designated.
An alert ATC immediately asked the Jet Airways flight to go around, thus allowing the errant Indigo aircraft time to clear the main runway for the Jet Airways flight to land.

Mumbai airport authorities have ordered a probe into the incident to ascertain the lapses.
