Man held for taking photos of sensitive places in Nashik

Nashik: A man was arrested for taking pictures at prohibited areas in air-force station, Nashik on Sunday. Several photographs of prohibited and sensitive areas in Nashik were found with him.

The man identified as Shabir Shaikh (41) has been remanded in police custody. High-level state and central agencies are investigating whether he has any connection with any terror groups.

Deolali Camp police said that two mobile phones, an Aadhar card, a debit card, tickets of city bus service and railway tickets between Thane and Nashik were seized from him. Shaikh has been booked under section 451 and other sections of the Official Secrets Act, 1923.

According to police sources, Shaikh was nabbed by air-force station security personnel, while he was clicking photographs at the premises. He had entered the premises by boarding a school bus of the public transport service, which goes inside the area.

The police found more than 20 photographs of different locations of the city including the central bus stand, railway station, air-force station and other sensitive areas. Police commissioner Kulwant Kumar Sarangal said, “We are checking his intentions for clicking the photographs. As this is a sensitive matter, all efforts will be made to go to the bottom of the case,”

Shaikh is a resident of Koparkhaine in Navi Mumbai and works as a teacher at an Urdu school. He does not have any relatives or business in Nashik.
