Management quota admissions should be transparent: Vinod Tawde

Nagpur: Maharashtra Higher Education Minister Vinod Tawde on Tuesday said there should be transparency in the admissions for management quota seats in various colleges and the process should be done on merit basis.

Tawde was talking to mediapersons outside the state Legislative Council on some questions raised inside the House.

The Question Hour in the Upper House was wiped out following uproar by opposition members on the farmers' issues, therefore, the minister made his stand clear while talking to reporters.

There were irregularities in admissions for engineering colleges from management quota, Tawde pointed out and added that now the government has decided to make the admission process transparent.

Even under management quota, 50 per cent seats should be filled on merit basis, he said.

Under the name of minority institutes, some colleges had taken various decisions, he alleged.

But it should be on merit basis and with transparency, he asserted.

He said if minority quota seats are not filled, then necessary permissions should be taken from the concerned ministry to open those seats for allotment to other students.

Tawde was speaking on the issue raised by several Council members on the admission process adopted by a college in Navi Mumbai.
