Mumbai: Crime Branch of Mumbai Police on Wednesday invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in the case of firing outside the residence of fugitive Don Dawood Ibrahim's brother Iqbal Kaskar in which the latter's bodyguard-cum-driver was killed.

MCOCA provisions have been applied on seven arrested accused and absconding gangster Chhota Rajan, arch rival of Dawood Ibrahim, Joint Commissioner of Police, Himanshu Roy, told reporters.

The seven arrested accused are Umed Ul Rehman, Aasid Jan Mohammed Shaikh, Sayyed Ali, Indra Khatri, Abdul Rashid Shaikh, Adnan Sayed and D K Rao.

D K Rao, alleged close associate of gang leader Chhota Rajan, was arrested on July 12.

Rehman (27), a sharpshooter and active member of Rajan's gang, and his associate Aasid Jaan Mohammed Shaikh (41) were apprehended in Goa in July.

Two shooters Syyed Ali (29), a resident of Mumbai, and Indra Khatri (27), had earlier been arrested near J J Hospital here on the day of the incident while they were trying to escape after the firing.

Two more accused Abdul Rashad Shaikh (21) and Adnan Idaayad Sayyed (21), who had allegedly shown the target - Kaskar's driver Bukha - to the two shooters, were arrested on May 25.

During interrogation, accused Rehman had indicated Rao's role in the firing incident, sources said.

Two gunmen had fired outside Kaksar's residence on Pakmodia street in south Mumbai on May 17, killing Kaskar's bodyguard-cum-driver Arif Syed Abu Bukha. Kaskar was not present at the time when the incident occurred.
