Chandigarh: The Haryana Janhit Congress (BL) on Sunday said the party is working out modalities on the issue of extending support to the Congress government in the state.
"We are working out modalities and will make an announcement in this regard (on extending support to Congress) shortly," HJC (BL) chief Kuldeep Bishnoi said here today.
Support of HJC (BL), a new entrant which contested the Assembly polls for the first time and won six seats, is important for Congress, which is six short of simple majority in the 90-member house.
Although all the seven newly-elected Independent MLAs have pledged their unconditional support to Congress, HJC (BL)'s support is crucial for the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led government's stability.
"Whichever government comes, the people should get their due...I have made a lot of promises to them during polls and now I only want that these should be fulfilled," Bishnoi said when asked if was comfortable with Hooda as Chief Minister.
Bishnoi's father Bhajan Lal was edged out from the race of chief ministership in 2005 by Hooda when Congress stormed to power with an overwhelming majority.
On whether he wants any portfolio, Bishnoi said although he had been offered the post of deputy chief minister, he was not after any ministerial berth. "However, if Congress offer any posts to my MLAs, I have no problem," he said.
The Congress, having a strength of 40 MLAs had staked claim to form the government on Friday.
