Thane: The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Tuesday suspended nine rebel candidates for six years for anti-party activities and contesting against its candidates in the upcoming municipal corporation elections in the city.

The names of those suspended are Shanti Rajendra Yadav, Dheersingh Khakhu, Manik Patil, Maya Chavan, Kalpana Patil, Namita Mehrol, Neelam Adsule and Rajneesh Tripathi and Suresh Jadhav, according to a statement released here.

The MPCC has also issued show cause notices to two others -- former Mayor Nayeem Khan and Pradesh representative Sunny Thomas.

Khan's son and Thomas' wife are contesting against the official party candidates and both are canvassing for their kin.
