MSEDCL engineer caught red-handed accepting bribe
They were trapped by the Thane unit of the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakhs from an electrical contractor.
Thane: A junior engineer of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) from Kalamboli, in Navi Mumbai called Avinash G Kokitkar and his accomplice were allegedly caught red-handed while accepting a bribe here on Monday.
They were trapped by the Thane unit of the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakhs from an electrical contractor, the ACB`s Thane office said today.
The contractor who bagged a deal to install electrical lines, had approached the MSEDCL`s local office to obtain a feasibility report, when junior engineer Avinash G Kokitkar allegedly demanded Rs 4.50 lakh for issuing the same, police inspector Sushma Yevle of the Navi Mumbai ACB said.
Shortly after the aggrieved contractor lodged a complaint with the ACB, which laid a trap, Kokitkar was allegedly caught accepting the money through one Allen Verghese, at a road opposite the MSEDCL office. Both the accused have been booked under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, an ACB official said.
