Mumbai: The central business district of Bandra-Kurla Complex has got a two-level modern underground car park, topped off with a 13,000 square metres green lung.

Called Jio Garden, it's a joint initiative of Reliance Industries and Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority.

The Jio Garden was dedicated to the city by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, with Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, founder-chairperson of Reliance Foundation Nita Ambani, Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar in attendance here on Wednesday evening.

"Jio Garden is an example of our commitment to creating world-class, multi-purpose and technology-enabled public spaces for a fast growing India," Nita Ambani said on the occasion.

"It resonates with every Mumbaikar's dream of living in a sophisticated, digitally-enabled city that is still in touch with its beautiful physical roots," she added.

The parking lot comprises of two underground levels of 33,546 sq. metres each, with a total capacity to park 2000 vehicles, accompanied by the state-of-the-art car parking system and highest levels of security and safety.

The Jio Garden above the parking lot is spread over 13,000 sq. metres of lush greenery and complements Fadnavis' vision of developing Mumbai as a digitally-enabled Smart City with the best-in-class 4G-enabled services, driver lounges, public address and security systems in place.

The exquisitely-landscaped garden includes one of the largest, multi-purpose non-toxic synthetic turf installations in Asia besides special security measures for women like 'panic button' on alternative pillars in the complex.

There are plans to set up several Jio Gardens around the country, including Greenfield gardens like the one in BKC, and existing gardens to be re-purposed and re-designed, using local flora to promote biodiversity.
