Mumbai: Jail inmates take pledge to make "India of their dreams"

About 120 inmates of the Arthur Road Central Jail took an oath to create an "India of their dreams" on the occasion of birth anniv of Mahatma Gandhi.

Mumbai: About 120 inmates of the Arthur Road Central Jail here today took an oath to create an "India of their dreams" on the occasion of the 143rd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on Tuesday. A programme to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti and to mark the International Non-violence Day was organised in the jail premises by Mumbai Sarvodaya Mandal and Gandhi Research Foundation, in association with jail authorities. About 120 inmates took an oath to create an "India of their dreams" on the occasion. The jail superintendent appealed to the inmates to bring about a change in themselves, a release by the Mandal said.

A lot can be achieved by adopting Gandhiji’s teachings of truth and non-violence, he said, adding the jail inmates had the responsibility of the world and their families on their shoulders. "Realise this responsibility and you will be able to change yourself," he said. An oath to make a non-violent world was administered to the jail inmates. PTI
