Mumbai: Minor girl killed by speeding train

Thane: A six-year-old girl was was run over
by a speeding train in Mumbra here on Monday evening, railway
police said.

The incident took place at around 5.30 pm when Asmita
Dashrath Shingare, who had gone with her mother to take a
darshan of Lord Shiva on the occasion of Mahashivratri at
Khidkaleshwar, returned to her locality.

While her mother was paying rickshaw fare, Asmita
suddenly ran up to the nearby railway tracks and was hit by a
speeding local train, police said.

Following the incident, the nearby residents held a
`rail roko` for about an hour.

The agitating people demanded a foot-over-bridge be
constructed soon.

Thane railway police have registered a case of
accidental death.
