Mumbai: Mumbai Police has recorded the statement of senior IPS officer Sunil Paraskar, who is accused of raping a model, reports said on Tuesday.

As per reports, DIG Paraskar`s statement was recorded at the Mumbai Police Commissioner`s office yesterday. Sources, however, claimed that Paraskar had denied charges levelled against him by calling it "baseless".

Paraskar, whose statement was recorded at 12.30 pm, was questioned by Deputy Police Commissioner (Crime) Sharada Raut and Assistant Police Commissioner Kala Gavit.

During the questioning, Parakar admitted that that he knew the complainant and interacted with her quite often. The senior IP officer is also believed to have admitted to taking the complainant to see a bunglow in Madh Island, but categorically denied molesting her as alleged in the FIR.

Paraskar also rubbished the allegation that he raped the victim in an apartment in Navi Mumbai.

The complainant has slammed Paraskar for alleging that she was taking revenge after Paraskar had arrested her earlier for being involved in an escort service.

The complainant said, "I have registered an FIR against Sunil Paraskar. It is a case of molestation and rape. I have come to the media because in his bail application he has said that he has arrested me. He says he has arrested me for being involved in an escort service and to take revenge for that I am levelling false accusations against him. He is such a big officer. Does he not know that when you arrest someone you present them in a court?"
The complainant`s supplementary statement had already been also recorded. "We have also submitted a preliminary probe report to state government and state Director General of Police on July 25," he added.

57-year-old Paraskar had on Friday filed an anticipatory bail application before the Sessions court here which granted him interim protection till July 31.

Paraskar, Deputy Inspector General (Protection of Civil Rights Units), is at present posted at the Maharashtra Police Headquarters.
