Mumbai: Police constable among 5 held for murder

Five persons, including a police constable, were arrested for allegedly murdering their 25-year-old neighbour.

Mumbai: Five persons, including a police
constable, were on Saturday arrested for allegedly murdering their
25-year-old neighbour in Cuff Parade area, police said.

The accused have been identified as police constable
Prakash Sawade, Rakesh Sawade, Anil Sawade, Kishan Sawade and
Vishal Rathi.

We are on the lookout for the other two accused who
are currently absconding," said Assistant Commissioner of
Police (Colaba Division) Iqbal Shaikh.

The incident took place in tony Cuffe Parade`s Geeta
Nagar area today morning.

The deceased Khwaja Mohiuddin alias Amir was on his
way to public toilet when he was stopped by seven persons at
around 7:30 AM. The men assaulted Amir with an iron rod and
then stabbed him in the stomach. Amir was rushed to St George
Hospital and then to the GT Hospital, where he was declared
brought dead, police said.

A case of murder was then registered at the Cuffe
Parade Police Station. "On the basis of the case and
statements given by those who witnessed the crime, we arrested
five persons.

Shaikh said that Prakash is a police driver and is
attached to the MRA Marg Police Station. He revealed that on
Saturday night, the victim had got into an argument with one
of the accused.

All five arrested accused have been booked under
section 302 of the Indian Penal Code for murder.

"We will produce them in court on Monday. We are also
on the lookout for the other two accused and will nab them
soon," added Shaikh.
