Mumbai: In a rather shocking case, the Mumbai police on Monday arrested an elderly man for allegedly throwing off his three-year-old grandson from the six-floor balcony of his flat.
The child was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead by doctors.
The accused, identified as Nivrutti Kharche, was reportedly not on a very good terms with his daughter-in-law and felt that she was not taking good care of him. Apparently, Kharche was also disturbed about his ill-health and complained that his daughter-in-law did not give him food on time.
Senior police inspector Mahadev Vavhale of Vakola police station told DNA that Kharche was getting annoyed over small things and used to get irritated on petty issues. On Sunday evening, Kharche and his daughter-in-law got into a ugly argument over a property matter, after which in a fit of rage, he picked up his three-year-old grandson and threw him off the balcony, leading to his death.
The Vakola police has charged Kharche for murder under relevant section of the Indian Penal Code and has sent him to police custody till June 2.
