Mumbai: Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray on Monday demanded resignations of Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil and Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik over the August 11 violence that left two persons dead and many injured.
"Patil and Patnaik should quit for their mishandling of the situation," Uddhav said during a visit to Amar Jawan memorial near BMC office in South Mumbai, which was damaged by vandals during the protest.
Two youths were killed and 52, including 44 policemen, injured when a rally in protest of alleged atrocities on Muslims in Assam and Myanmar turned violent near Azad Maidan in Mumbai on August 11.
The protesters went on a rampage, attacking the police, including some women constables, torching media and police vehicles, smashing cameras of photo journalists and damaging buses.
