Mumbai violence unfortunate: MPCC

Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Manikrao Thakre on Saturday termed as "sad and unfortunate" the violence at Azad Maidan that left two persons dead and at least 52 others injured.

Mumbai: Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Manikrao Thakre on Saturday termed as "sad and unfortunate" the violence at Azad Maidan that left two persons dead and at least 52 others injured.
Thakre, who met Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan soon after the violence broke out and shared his views regarding taking effective measures, has appealed to people to stay "calm and maintain peace", MPCC spokesperson Sachin Sawant said.
Earlier, police had to open fire in the air after a rally being held at Azad Maidan in South Mumbai this afternoon to denounce the riots in Assam and also alleged attacks on a minority community in Myanmar, turned unruly and participants set afire vehicles, damaged buses and pelted stones.
