Aurangabad: Maharashtra Janjagran Samiti, which claims to be the representative body of Muslims from Marathwada region, has threatened to stop supporting Congress in upcoming Lok Sabha elections, saying the ruling party has "not kept its promises" made to the community.
"Since last two decades, the representatives of the community are demanding reservation for Muslims in government jobs and removing encroachments from Wakf properties, but our demands are fallen on deaf ears," said Samiti president Mohsin Ahmed.
He alleged the state government had "cheated" Muslims by handing over them a disputed land for construction of a Haj House here.
Ahmed alleged "despite the assurance given by state minister Arif Naseem Khan before the Legislative Assembly that 83 such properties of Wakf, which are encroached upon will be freed, nothing has happened".
He demanded that reservation be given for Muslims in education and government jobs at par with Marathas.
The politically sensitive proposal for giving reservation for Marathas has been pending before the government.
