Nagpur: Former Union Minister and Congress
MP Vilas Muttemwar, who is on the forefront demanding separate
Vidarbha, has sought the support of Lok Sabha Speaker Meira
Kumar over the issue.
Stating that Kumar had supported the formation of
separate Jharkhand, Muttemwar, in a letter to the the Lok
Sabha Speaker, requested her to prevail upon the Central
Government to agree to the long pending demand of statehood to
Vidarbha along with Telangana.
The government has completely ignored to take practical
steps to evolve consensus to examine the genuine and oldest
demand of the people for restoration of statehood to Vidarbha,
he said.
Vidarbha has largely remained underdeveloped and lacks
basic infrastructure such as irrigation, education, health
care, drinking water and industry. The plight of farmers, who
in large number had committed suicides, is miserable, he
added.
