Nagpur: Nagpur University would be holding
the 98th convocation ceremony on November 26 in which over
50,000 students will be conferred with degrees, officials said
on Thursday.

The ceremony for the 2009-10 academic sessions has been
delayed by over a year.

According to a university official, 500 candidates
would be awarded doctorates by the chief guest and UGC
chairman Ved Prakash on the occasion.

"This time the number of PhDs to be awarded is a bit
higher due to backlog," Controller of Examinations (CoE)
Siddharth Kane said.

He, however, added that the number of PhDs could go up
even further as many candidates have nearly completed the
formalities.

Ironically, the Doctor of Letters (or Literature),
popularly known as D Litt, would not be bestowed upon any
person this year as well.

`Nightingale of India` Lata Mangeshkar was the last
recipient to get the D Litt (Honorary) in 2008.
