Mumbai: Narendra Modi, the man tipped to be BJP’s face in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, is set to storm `dahi handi` celebrations in Mumbai on Thursday.

Not one but hundreds of Modi are set to take part in the celebrations with the BJP distributing masks and T-shirts with the Gujarat Chief Minister’s picture on them to members of `dahi handi` festival teams.

On Sunday, led by Ashish Shelar, the Mumbai BJP also distributed insurance policies to around 350 mandals, participating in the festival to be celebrated today, when human pyramids are built by participants by climbing and standing over each other.

"As many as 30,000 members of dahi handi teams have been given insurance policies with a cover of Rs 1.5 lakh per person," the BJP functionary said.

The person who reaches on the top of the human pyramid to break the decorated clay pot containing curds in it, also called the `dahi handi`, would wear a Modi mask, he said.

Addressing a gathering later, Shelar said that the country needs a "strong" leader like Modi to "save" the country.

"To save the country, a strong leader like Modi is needed and therefore we have unleashed Modi`s boys for the dahi handi, who will protect insecure women in Mumbai," he said, referring to the gang-rape of a 22-year-old female photojournalist two days ago.
