Nashik: Frustrated over judgement in a land case not going in his favour, a 70-year-old farmer allegedly tried to commit suicide in a local court, police said on Wednesday.

However, his bid to commit suicide was foiled by an alert court employee and the farmer was later arrested.

Prabhakar Tatya Mondhe, resident of Adasare village in the district's Igatpuri taluka, yesterday tried to consume an insecticide in the premises of additional district and sessions court, an officer at Sarkarwada police station said.

Mondhe's case in connection with the land dispute was going on in the court since 2009 and recently the judgement was pronounced against him.

He came to the court yesterday to make an appeal against the judgement.

While going out of the court room, he took out a bottle of insecticide from his pocket and was about to drink it when a court clerk snatched it from him.

Later, Mondhe was arrested and an offence was registered against him under Section 309 (attempt to commit suicide) of the IPC, police added.
