Naxal killed in encounter, 2 women ultras held

Nagpur: A suspected Naxalite was killed during an encounter with security forces and two women ultras were arrested in Povarwel forests of Gadchiroli district this morning, police said.

A combined patrolling party of C-60 jawans and Kobra Battalion of the CRPF came across a group of Naxals in the forests under Pendhri police station, who opened indiscriminate firing at them, police said.

The jawans also launched a retaliatory attack, in which one Naxalite was killed, police said, adding that they had also recovered his body and some firearms and other material from the site.

The deceased was identified as Rahul alias Dinesh Dhurve, they added.

The two women Naxalites held were identified as - Lachchi alias Nimmi and Vanita alias Sushila Durve, both in their early 20s.

Police have recovered two 12 bore rifles, a 315 rifle and a total of 73 live rounds and other material, they added.
