Pune: Yogesh Raut, the alleged rapist-murderer of Synechron techie Nayana Pujari, made a reportedly shocking confession before the police that he felt no remorse as he has got used to raping.

After being arrested in Shirdi and brought to Pune police commissionerate, Raut appeared calm. He kept on watching the media persons hustling as the policemen were guarding him. Speaking to DNA, a senior crime branch officer said, “When we interrogated Raut, he told us that he is not feeling any remorse for his deed. He said he has got used to raping.”

Raut, who almost managed to get away with the crime by escaping from the police custody, was arrested on Friday by Pune crime branch in Shirdi where he had arrived from Delhi to offer prayers, police said.

During interrogations, Raut, who had escaped from the custody in 2011, told police that he returned to Pune and met his family in Baner area some two months ago.
The crime branch is also contemplating to lodge a complaint against those who have helped Raut to remain at large for over last 18 months.

Speaking to DNA, deputy commissioner of police (crime) Rajesh Bansode said, “We have decided to lodge a complaint against those who had helped Raut while he was on the run. We have identified the people who helped Raut and they will be arrested soon.”

A senior officer from the crime branch who did not want to reveal his identity, told DNA, “Raut was constantly in touch with his family members. He used to call them on their mobile phone from telephone booths and used to get information about the line of investigations being followed by the police. Some three months ago, Raut had called up one of his family members and told them that he will be coming to Pune. Accordingly, his family members had gone to meet him. They chose to meet at Baner because it was quite far from their house.”
The police officer also alleged that some policemen had received a tip-off but they failed to act on it.

Raut and his three accomplices had kidnapped the 28-year-old techie. The woman was later found raped and murdered on October 07, 2009, in Zarewadi forest area in Khed.

The accused was arrested but had escaped from the Sasoon hospital on September 17, 2011, while in custody and had been absconding since then.

According to police, Raut was living in a slum in the Trilok Puri area of Delhi under the fake name Ravikumar Ashokkumar Bhalla. He was working as an office boy in Delhi during the day and in a laundry at night.

During investigations, it was revealed that Raut had used a driving licence and also a PAN card in the name of Ravikumar Bhalla.
