Mumbai: Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Monday said unlike Congress its alliance partner NCP was in two minds over who will lead the party in the future.
"In NCP, there is a confusion over who will be the next leader. Pawar`s nephew and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar or daughter Supriya Sule.... They (NCP) are in two minds. Whereas we (Congress) are clear on who our leader will be....It is Rahul Gandhi and there is no doubt in anybody`s mind," MPCC president Manikrao Thakre told reporters.
He was reacting to NCP chief Sharad Pawar`s statement after Rahul Gandhi was anointed as Congress vice president.
Pawar had reportedly said that the situation was not such in NCP to work under the leadership of his daughter Supriya Sule.
Thakre said Maharashtra would be the first state to implement changes in the party structure as envisaged by Rahul Gandhi in his speech in Jaipur yesterday.
"We will aim to make our party people-oriented administration-wise and organisation-wise. It will be done once the AICC gives necessary directives," he said.
Thakre said a committee will be formed to deliberate on how the party can be reformed as per Rahul`s wishes that includes introduction of transparency in organisational elections and empowering district and block presidents to take decision on ticket distribution.
The MPCC president said chief minister Prithviraj Chavan will address block presidents of 14 districts on February 1 via video conferencing from Tilak Bhavan here to discuss drought relief and organisation matters.
Thakre said the issue of continuing three additional LPG cylinders for BPL families despite the Centre raising the cap from six to nine should be taken up before the state Cabinet.
NCP had demanded that Centre should provide three additional LPG cylinders to joint families as nine cylinders are sufficient only for nuclear families.
