Pune: Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Friday
emphasised on the need to work on the latest agricultural
techniques and effective water management.

He also said that the Union government is in the process
of bringing a proposal to set up Biotechnology Regulatory
Authority of India.

He was talking at a programme organised by the state
Agriculture Ministry.

Talking about the shortage of fertilizers, he said, "As we
have enough buffer stock of fertilizers, there would be no
shortage of fertilizers in the state anymore. He also said
that nationalized and commercial banks must give loans to the
priority sector.

The architect of Green Revolution Dr MS Swaminathan,
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, state Agriculture minister
Gulabrao Devkar were present on the occasion.

The Agriculture Department gave away many prestigious
awards by the hands of Chavan on this occasion.
