Mumbai: Congress MP from Mumbai North Sanjay
Nirupam said Bihari migrants have contributed to the
development and progress of several states in the country.
Nirupam, who hails from Bihar, defended AICC General
Secretary Rahul Gandhi`s comments that Bihari migrants have
contributed in the development of Maharashtra.
Condemning Shiv Sena`s comments against Gandhi over the
issue, Nirupam said apart from Maharashtra, the Bihari
migrants have also contributed in the progress of other states
like Punjab, Gujarat, Delhi including the southern states.
He said, "be it the construction of Delhi Metro or
agriculture in Punjab, it is 100 per cent Bihari labour which
has contributed in its extraordinary success."
Nirupam, a former Shiv Sena leader, asserted that
Congress does not believe in divisive politics and do not
belittle people of any region.
"For the Congress party, all people irrespective of their
region are hardworking and do not discriminate against any
particular community. At the same time in the case of Mumbai,
over 70 per cent of population who are outsiders, have played
a major role along with the Maharashtrians in the growth of
Mumbai," he said.
He also said in the last 20 years there has been no
development in Bihar and hence there was increase in migration
of Biharis to other parts of the country.
