No need for Chavan to resign: Maharashtra Congress chief

Mumbai: Maharashtra Congress chief Manikrao Thakre today came to the defence of Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan over the Adarsh commission report issue, saying that there was no need for him to resign.

Chavan is facing some embarrassment after the party vice president Rahul Gandhi yesterday expressed disapproval about the state government`s decision to reject the report of the inquiry commission on Adarsh Society scam.

"There is no question of Chief Minister resigning. The decision (to reject the report) had been taken after taking the cabinet into confidence," Thakre said, talking to reporters here.
Chavan would discuss the issue with his cabinet colleagues, Thakre said, adding at the same time that "we will abide by what Rahul Gandhi has said".
Reacting to coalition partner NCP`s statements on the issue -- critical of Chavan -- he said, "We do not pay heed to what the NCP says."
