The Bombay High Court today sought a reply from the Union government on a petition alleging breach of rules by the Navy while granting an NOC to a high-rise project near its base here.

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court today sought a
reply from the Union government on a petition alleging
breach of rules by the Navy while granting an NOC to a
high-rise project near its base here.

The 70-storey building which is coming up as part of a
redevelopment project is 125 metres from the boundary of INS
Trata, the Naval base in Worli, while rules do not allow any
construction within 300 metres, the petition says.

A division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and S C
Dharmadhikari asked the Union government to file a reply,
adjourning the hearing for four weeks.

The project has been undertaken by A A Estate Pvt Ltd,
and it involves redevelopment of old chawls (tenements) in
Labour Camp area of Worli.

Subodh Kochare, the petitioner, is a resident of one of
these tenements which are going to be pulled down.

The building that would replace them would be 214.30-mt
high, the petition says, adding that "permission granted by
the naval authorities is highly detrimental to the national
security".
