Mumbai: Maharashtra has registered around
one crore of its population under the ambitious Aadhar project
to issue Unique Identification Card (UID).
Altogether 4000 registration centres have been started at
1100 places in the state, an official release said.
Aadhar aims to provide a 12-digit number to citizens and
is generated by the Unique Identification Authority of India
(UIDAI).
The number will be stored in a centralised database and
linked to the basic demographics and biometric information -
photograph, fingerprints and iris - of each individual.
It is estimated that it would take between 12 and 18
months to complete registration process in the state and the
process would continue if needed, the release said.
